About the Author
Prodromos Daoutidis is Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota. He has also held a position as Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2004 2006. He is the recipient of several research and teaching awards and recognitions, including the NSF CAREER Award, the Model-Based Innovation Prize from Process Systems Enterprise, the Ted Peterson Award of CAST, the George Taylor Career Development Award, the McKnight Land-Grant Professorship, the Ray D. Johnson/Mayon Plastics Professorship and the Shell Chair at the University of Minnesota. He has also been a Humphrey Institute Policy Fellow. He has co-authored two books and 175 refereed papers.

Great recipes and great tips

I loved this cookbook and ended up cooking 7 recipes, not including some of the salad dressing and marinades that I tried. The meals are separated into many sections. There are breakfast, lunch, dinner, stir-fry meals, casseroles, and much more. Not only does the book include recipes but there are little boxes that include tips and substitutions if you don't have ingredients on hand. It also includes an index.

Everyone looks for different things in a cookbook but I can only tell you the things that are important to me.

Pictures. I have to have tons of pictures. I will buy a cookbook because of the pictures alone. I like the pictures because they tell me if my end result was on the right track. And of course they make me hungry enough to want to cook something instead off nuking some pizza rolls (don't judge!)

This cookbook has at least one picture per page! It's absolutely wonderful. The food looks so amazing and I know instantly which recipes I would be interested in trying. In this aspect, this book is far above the rest.

Ingredients - Number. I don't like cooking recipes that have tons of ingredients because I increase the likelihood that I will forget to buy something or that I will forget to add it into my recipe (I forgot the cream cheese in a spinach dip recently and still ate it. True story.). Plus, tons of ingredients make me think that the recipe will be more expensive to make whether or not that's true.

I think the number of ingredients in these recipes are reasonable. There are usually about 10 ingredients but that will include salt, pepper, and cooking spray. For my lifestyle, I can usually do with fewer ingredients but you know...I'm just like that.

Ingredients - Common. I love to cook recipes where the ingredients are already in my house! How awesome is that! I love to cook, so it makes it easier for me to cook on every whim. This is especially handy when I'm studying corporations because it is the type of subject that makes you want to cut some onions. If I have to buy a new ingredient, I really want it to be something that I will use again.

This cookbook is cutting it close with that one. I certainly had to plan the recipes ahead of time and buy ingredients that I had never heard of and had no idea where to find. Luckily toward the end of my experience with this book, it worked out because the recipes used some of the same ingredients over and over. So I definitely got my money's worth as long as I stick with this cookbook. It's so easy to do that I certainly didn't mind in the end. Just an extra note, I had to find many seasonings and other ingredients at my local whole foods and central market. If I was back home, I would be out of luck because we have itty bitty grocery stores where it is hard to find normal food. So I'd be careful about that one.

Simplicity. I am lazy. That is all.

Oh and this is where this cookbook shines! All the recipes where so easy to follow and make. And the end results made me look like I was an experienced chef. Other people who have tasted the results give me much more credit in the kitchen than I deserve. This cookbook is really great for creating a fancy looking meal and impressing a special someone. Or a potential special someone. Or maybe your boss. The recipes are simple but the end result doesn't look like it at all!

Time. I'm studying for the bar. They lied and said I would be studying 8 hours a day. It's more like 15. I don't have time to talk to my mom, let alone cook meals that take an hour.

These are quick! I love it. The longest recipe took me 25 minutes and the shortest took me about 10 to prep. Baking/cooking time is usually 7-20 minutes. Longer if you forget about it in the oven. This was perfect for me. I think the Hubby thinks I slaved over a stove for 2 hours on our anniversary to make dinner. I'm pretty sure that I actually fixed everything while he was in the bathroom and then stuck it in the oven for 15 minutes. Hey I take credit even when I don't deserve it.

Taste. Yes, it must taste better than pizza rolls. This is not as easy as you might think. I LOVE pizza rolls.

Every recipe that I have tried has been amazing. There are not words to describe how much my world was rocked. I really don't want to move to a new cookbook. I've made some recipes like 6 times already. Yum-my!

Bonus Materials. Extras.

This book has a ton of helpful extras. If you don't know how to cook or feel a little uncomfortable jumping out there, I think this book is very helpful with that. I was most excited that it gave me a list of meals that I could make using one rotisserie chicken. Or recipes for creating marinades for any meat. I've also fallen in love with making my own homemade salad dressings because of this book. There are so many ideas and tips that don't go to one recipe or other but can be used with anything. I think I learned a lot about cooking from this book.

Overall, I think this cookbook is the queen of the cookbooks. I'm sold. Many of the recipes are online or have been in Cooking Light magazine so you can find them without buying the book. But the book is more than just a cookbook so I'd say it is worth the investment.

Fantastic new book from Weinstein/Scarbrough.
Easy and effective techniques. This book is great for family meals or feeding guests who "drop in".
In addition to the written recipes, each page has color illustrations.
This is a must for every cookbook library.

I have used this several times and purchased for each of my children and friends children that were always uneasy about cooking. They all love it! This book breaks down the basics of your kitchen, sauces, spices to what you should always have on hand in the kitchen! This book is a great addition to anyone's kitchen! Great book Cooking Light!!

This book is a collections of pubblications, so it is quite difficult (for people like me) to follow (i.e. the meaning of all those numbers and data require an extra effort from the readers).
In any case, as a review about the argument, is good enough and quite complete.

Nice book for children-friendly projects

This book has some really cute ideas that would be great if you're baking for children. Some of the recipes use boxed mixes and some are scratch and I like that aspect of the book. I love to bake scratch goods but sometimes I don't have time or the inclination (like when you're baking for little kids who are simply going to eat the frosting and throw away the cake part :)! I would definitely recommend this book to beginner+ bakers as the projects are beautiful and the use of color is pretty unique and explained well.

Excellent Resource

The situation in the manufacturing industry in the United States in 2008 is as follows: All surviving US manufacturing companies are implementing or planning on implementing lean manufacturing principles and practices. All successful US manufacturing companies are doing or have done extensive lean manufacturing implementations. At the same time ERP systems remain as the backbone of the business enterprise integrating all the business functions within the organization. Manufacturing, accounting, sales, human resources, in fact all business function share this same powerful database.

Brian Carroll's 2nd edition of "Lean Performance ERP Project Management - Implementing the Virtual Lean Enterprise" provides management and operations practitioners with an excellent guide and reference as to how these two powerful systems and tools can be combined to achieve the productivity gains that companies are seeking. The book includes a history and evolution of lean manufacturing and an overview of lean principles and tools. Included also is a step-by-step guide for the project manager to apply these lean principles and practices while at the same time getting the full benefit of the power of an ERP system.

I can tell you from personal experience that these tools work. Having used Brian's methodology within my own organization we were able to achieve significant improvements in business processes and achieve our performance improvement goals of reduced cost, reduced cycle time, improved delivery performance, and the elimination of defects. Attorney's Guide

As a practicing lawyer who earns a living in the criminal courts, I found this book an excellent and informative guide to this often problematic area. The authors introduce the subject in a way that is easy for the beginner to comprehend, but at the same time include sufficient detail to answer many of the most pressing problems facing a defence team in court.

A great intro for the beginner

Having left behind my interest in genetics in order to pursue tax accountancy, I've always been fascinated by accounts of DNA typing. This book provides a wonderful introduction that is accessible to even the novice geneticist like myself. Much of the information Rudin and Inman give is quite practical; with some help from a friend who works in a medical lab I was able to set up my own electrophoresis gels and PCR. A word of caution to the amateur, however: make sure you practice before drawing any conclusions from the "evidence." My wife, Amy, wouldn't speak to me for a week after I claimed that a stain on our bed linen did not match my DNA. It turned out that she had spilled some ice cream.

A must-have for any DNA criminalist or criminal lawyer

I have a BS in genetics and biochemistry and am looking to enter into a forensics lab. This book is an EXCELLENT resource for an entry-level criminalist, criminal lawyer, or the non-scientist interested in this topic. It was organized from basic genetics to higher-level interpretation issues and included tons of diagrams, pictures, and relevant case studies. This book did an outstanding job explaining complicated and detailed subject matter in an easy to understand and interesting matter.

Collection of Articles (Mis-titled)

The editor chose a catchy title but the book is really a collection of articles - probably mostly submissions by students interested in being published in various magazines. Don't let the copyright date fool you - the article that was dated was from 1998 though others are just dated with the books copyright date. If you are looking for technical depth, algorithmic complexity, or practical knowledge then this book is not a good choice. If you want discussion of database topics that most any good engineer already knows plus the spice of a few articles with somewhat interesting subjects such as an algorithm for when to denormalize, then this makes nice, easy reading. The title suggests so much more but the book leaves one wondering if the consulting firm practices what was authored - just a little more technical knowledge than a new grad and then OEM a solution from IBM. I can say that I have not read the whole book but what I read almost totally ignores Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, and others and gives a terse mention to DB2. How can you write an article specifically on Data Mining and not mention Oracle and Teradata. Whew!

Wherein the south

Southern Living's Everyday Gardening is a good gardening book for the south. One of the questions that occurs when reading this book is where is the south? There are zone maps and plants are described in some instances for the upper, middle, lower, coastal and tropical south; however in parts of the book we are left wondering if the plant is suitable for a certain area.
The step by step directions are also not very detailed for a beginning gardener or one who is not sure of his/her planting or garden design abilities. Direction on how to plant bulbs is skipped over completely.

The pictures are lush and elegant and one could notch down, to save some money, their design and decorating aspirations from the pictures of high brick garden walls, statuary, partial Greek pillars. There are lovely terraced hillsides and bocce ball courts. At one point we are told of the economies of installing a lap pool - getting two for one, an exercise area and a garden feature.
Just realize this is not inexpensive everyday gardening instruction . The book does include; designing, garden elements, plant information, the edible garden, a rudimentary step by step section, general garden information such as fertilizing and zone maps. There is also an excellent monthly calendar section which gives information such as taming your tomatoes and smart watering.
It is a very nice book for southern elegant gardening.

Great layman's reference!

I am a "sometimes" or "beginner/intermediate" gardener hoping to increase my garden abundance from a few tomatoes and some flowers to something more substantial this year. I receive Southern Living magazine and am always helped by the tips inside. This book has already proved to be a tremendously helpful resource book for me as I make real plans for spring planting this year. The chapters include:

*Key Garden Elements
*Plants You Gotta Grow
*The Edible Garden
*Gardening Step-by-Step
*Around Your Garden (a handy month-by-month tutorial)
*Zone Maps
The layout is easy to read, easy to navigate, and quite frankly, beautiful. I am enjoying it. An advanced gardener will need something more in-depth, no doubt, but I think anyone can benefit from its easy-reference style.

Wonderful pictures, a very inspiring book. Looks to have great gardening tips and ideas. Gave it as a present so only browsed through.
