Lots of scratch recipes. I'm a culinary student and hate boxed ingredients, this book definitely delivers. If you're like me, and want recipes that are scratch baked.. this is the book for you.

What a terrific book!! I am known as the baker in the family. And boy this book is great for someone who does a lot of baking. I haven't found a recipe that I've made that hasn't turned out terrific. I made the Banana Pound Cake last week. Talk about delicious. And moist. The Lemon Cake is my favorite since I love Lemon. The Triple Decker strawberry cake is a show stopper. From cookies to pies this is quite a book. This is not for someone who is counting calories. It is an all out sweet decandence book. I bake for my husband but all the neighbors are enjoying the treats. Would make a terrific gift.

it's stupid. Bake the king cake as normal then after ...

I just had to come on here and say something. Pay no attention to the blurb before the King Cake recipe. Under no circumstance should you ever put the plastic baby inside the king cake BEFORE baking. That is obviously a typo written by someone not native to New Orleans. No one in their right mind would ever do that, it's stupid. Bake the king cake as normal then after it's cool, flip it over, shove the baby in the bottom and flip it back over. Voila. Done. Easy peasy. Now the rest of the book seems to be fine. It's loaded with a decent list of southern favorites and the recipes themselves appear solid. I haven't tried any yet though so I can't say for certain.
