Diabetes Author Recommends This Book

I am the author of "Diabetes! A Lifetime of Being Too Sweet" and have had Type 1 diabetes for 45 years. I am also an advocate for the American Diabetes Association and I always bring a copy of this book whenever I give talks and presentations. I also do quite a bit of research about diabetes and you can always trust the Mayo Clinic for reliable and accurate information about any disease. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent up-to-date and comprehensive view of diabetes

The Mayo Clinic has put it's stellar reputation behind this great book, which explains the disease in detail, provides practical information on preventing it and, in the event you're diagnosed, the things you need to do to live a long, healthy and productive life. It can be done, and The Essesntial Diabetes Book provides a great road map. Another book is less extensive but brief and easy-to-read. It uses real-life stories to illustrate problems and solutions diabetics continually face. You may want to check out The Diabetes Book: What Everyone Should Know

A great, practical reference

This is a very valuable book. My wife was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and we wanted a readable yet authoritative overview and reference. This is it.
The book is clearly written, and it's very easy to find specific topics in it. It covers all of the basics: What diabetes is, what causes it, what the effects are, how it's treated, and so on. The book is aimed for the non-expert reader, the person who wants to know what's going on and what to do about it. It doesn't talk down or up. An important part of that is the tone. Diabetes is a serious condition that needs to be taken seriously. However, a diagnosis is no reason to panic.
Bottom line: This is a great, practical reference book, particularly for the newly diagnosed diabetic. I recommend it most highly.
