celebration ideas

i purchased this book for some fresh ideas for celebration meals. the book is divided into the traditional chapters, soups, salads, fish, meat, side dishes and the like. however, it does have two pages of menus that mix and match the recipes in the section. some of the menu ideas are: weekend with friends, black tie christmas, springtime celebration, and seaside lunch.
i have found at least one recipe in each chapter that looks really good, but i have not yet made them. so, i cannot comment on the flavors or taste yet. the photography is nice and the quality that comes from williams sonoma is there. nice paper, nice cover, and nice book presentation.
the recipes are upscale and gourmet, although there are at least as many that are pretty standard, like garlic mashed potatoes or pumpkin pie. great appetizer ideas are by far the highlight for me in this book.

Not for the average cook

This book is for the sophistocated, experienced cook or chef and for people with wide varied palates. There are a few recipes I would make, but many involve a lot of time and preparation. Some people will love this book, some people will hate it. Purchased as a amazon Bargain Book, it must not be popular. For elegant, time-consuming cooking dinner parties or holiday meals. As a 61 year old very experienced cook, I am able to prepare these recipes, the problem is that many would not be eaten by my family. Not for beginner cooks. Fancy recipes.

Great cookbooks

In a digital world, I feel a large cookbook collection isn't necessary. Therefore, I keep mine to a select few--and these Williams-Sonoma books are keepers! We use them all of the time, and I always have one open on display in my kitchen for inspiration.
