It would have been great if I didn't already own other Gooseberry cookbooks. This was primarily a compilation taken from books I already owned so I found very few new recipes.

Great ccokbook with go-to recipes for any occasion

This book is one of the best cookbooks I have gotten in a few years. It has recipes to fit a busy weeknight or a special holiday. I love that there are pictures of several of the recipes included in the cookbook. There are great menu ideas as well as gift ideas from the kitchen. I have already made western-style quiche, stuffed mushrooms and chicken lasagna and can't wait to make more recipes. This would make a great gift for the home cook in your life. If you love Gooseberry Patch, you will not be disappointed with this full color cookbook.

Good old home cooking!

This book is a thick, hard bound book with homey border patterns and lots of hand drawn illustrations, making it a beautiful book to browse through and plan your meals and treats. There are also mouth-watering large color photos, many of them full page, depicting most of the dishes in the book. It's nice to see so many comfort foods all together in one book and it brings back a lot of memories as well. All of the recipes have been submitted by fans of Gooseberry Patch and there are frequent interesting quotes from the contributor that tell a little something personal about the recipe.
There are good old American classics, like Pineapple Upside Down Cake or Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy. But there are also foods from other places, too, like Wedding Soup or Tortilla Soup. Sweets abound, from Grandma's Chocolate Popcorn to Crustless Coconut Pie (my favorite!). I really enjoyed the section called "Gifts from the Kitchen" that had many suggestions for all kinds of foods in a jar that would be perfect to give as presents -- nuts, mixes, popcorn, jams and more. Every one of the recipes in Gooseberry Patch Big Book of Home Cooking seemed do-able and like something my family would be thrilled to have me put on the table!
