About the Author
Frederick Lieb (March 5, 1888 - June 3, 1980) was an American sportswriter and baseball historian. He and his wife Mary were especially close to Lou Gehrig. He was also known for coming up with the nickname for Yankee Stadium - 'The House that Ruth Built.'

Old timers

This is a fine and entertaining book of short pieces by a well-known baseball writer of the early 20th century. The anecdotes are sharp and funny, and the collection will be appreciated by anyone who loves baseball history. The chapter on Babe Ruth is quite good, and it has been quoted from in some of the Ruth biographies.
